I have built many things from a sandpit
using my patio slabs crate, to a roofed stage. And, up until recently this was
all done with a handsaw! I have recently purchased the Black and Decker
Scorpion electric saw and it has saved me hours of time and elbow grease! Here is the link to the one I brought on Amazon
This week, I took to the tools again
and created a shop. I used various wood lengths I found at home or around the
school, a pallet, hooks found in my shed, fence stain (optional) and a little
material for the bunting.
So, upon request, here is my step by
step guide on creating your very own shop using recycled resources.
1. Using a saw, (a handsaw is fine, but an electric one is much easier), cut down the pallet as seen here....
2. Cut two equal lengths of wood and attach. I used really long nails for this.
Like this...
3. Paint (optional). I used Ronseal One Coat fence treatment in the shade Dark Oak. It was £12 for 12L from my local B & Q.
4. Use chalkboard paint and a length of plywood to create a chalkboard. I found this in my garden shed!
5. And the chalkboard and a length of wood across the top to join.
6. Add two feet using small lengths of wood. The shop did stand without these but I wanted to make it extra sturdy for the children.
7. Add a shelf across the back, like this...
8. Add hooks. I used a few hooks I found at school and in my toolbox. You can buy little screw in hooks from a hardware store or eBay/Amazon for around £3 for 20 hooks.
9. Decorate with your chosen bunting/signage. We used hape zome printing to add patterns to our bunting.
DONE! And that's it. An afternoons work , minimal cost and for hours of fun. It did help that the sun was shining and the paint dried super quick.
I would like to dedicate this post to my Dad, for always inspiring me with his work ethic, drive and can do attitude. Nothing stands in the way of his dreams!
I would love to see if you give this a go. Please leave a comment below, follow me on my Instagram page and tag me in your creations @wildforlearningEYFS
